New Year, New You

Especially at this time of year, overeating is so easy. Not surprisingly, 71% of New Year’s resolutions involve weight loss. Whether your struggle with weight loss has been a long journey or you are looking to lose a couple of pounds from eating a few too many Christmas cookies, the team at Ageless Wellness Center can help. We offer a variety of weight loss options, including Ideal Protein, appetite suppression, and HCG weight loss. We will schedule a consultation with you to help find the plan which will work for your needs and lifestyle. Our solutions are designed for long-term change, so you do not have to continue feeling like you are fighting a losing battle. Regardless of the type of weight loss plan you are on, there are a couple of tips which will help make your weight loss journey more successful:

  • Set Up Accountability—Especially when food has been a comfort, it can be challenging when you first start a new program. Accountability can come in many ways, such as a weight loss coach, a friend trying to meet goals as well, or even an app on your phone which allows you to track your diet and exercise. All of us can achieve so much more when well-supported so find accountability and encouragement for your journey.
  • Find an Exercise Option—Exercise is an important component to pair with your weight loss plan. There are a variety of exercise activities to fit every lifestyle and schedule. If you have some physical limitations, swimming could be a great choice for a low impact work out. If you enjoy exercising in a group setting, consider joining a gym with fun classes available. Regardless of the type of exercise you choose, be consistent and you will see results in your wellness.
  • Purchase Healthy Food Options—Impulse eating can greatly hinder your weight loss journey. When you purchase healthy food to have available, you will be less likely to need to visit the vending machine at work or swing through fast food for dinner. Healthy snacks, such as fruit, vegetables, Greek yogurt, and almonds, could be great alternatives to the packaged snacks available through vending machines.

If you want to jumpstart your weight loss journey and achieve results in 2020, schedule a consultation at Ageless Wellness Center. We can help you set goals and reach success which lasts.

Loving Your Skin Through Laser Treatments

The holiday season is a great time to show love to our family and friends. This is also the perfect time to show some love to your skin. At Ageless Wellness Center, we offer a variety of laser treatments, which can improve the appearance of your skin and eliminate unwanted hair. Whether you are considering gifting an improved appearance to a loved one or you are shopping for your own self-care, laser treatments are a gift which can be appreciated way past the holiday season. Our team can develop a customized plan to suit your needs and help you go into 2020 with a rejuvenated look. Explore these most frequently asked questions about our laser treatments to learn more:

Why is the winter season ideal for laser treatments?
Although people tend to think more about their leg veins during swimsuit season, the UV rays from the sun are harsh and harder to avoid during the summer months. In the wintertime, you can protect your skin more easily for the needed few weeks after your treatment.

How many laser treatments will I need?
Every patient at Ageless Wellness Center is unique in their needs and desired outcome so the number varies. When we have a consultation with you, our team will better assess how many treatments will be necessary.

What issues can be addressed with laser treatments?
Laser treatment can improve the appearance:
● Hyperpigmentation–age spots, sun damage, birthmarks, etc.
● Redness, small facial veins, rosacea, cherry hemangiomas
● Wrinkles, fine lines and crepey skin
● Scars (including acne scars)
● Rough skin textures–enlarged pores
● Laser hair reduction
● Leg veins

How does Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment work?
This treatment combats skin discoloration and unwanted hair. Through using photothermal light energy, hair follicles, telangiectasias (fine veins) or hyperpigmentation (sun damage) are targeted. Although you may experience a little redness for a few hours afterwards, there is no down time needed from this treatment. Also, your skin will generate new collagen for an overall improved glow.

How does Laser Peel Treatment work?
A laser scans over your skin and carefully removes micron layers of skin. By removing the upper layers of old damaged skin, your skin will be healthier and younger looking. You can expect about 3-6 days of healing time. Also, you can expect to appear sunburned looking until the damaged skin finishes peeling off.

How does Profractional Laser Treatment work?
This treatment has been effective for a variety of skin conditions. Basically, the laser creates tiny holes deep into the skin which promote collagen production. This process can smooth wrinkles, scars, and other skin imperfections. The healing time usually is only 1-2 days. By day 3, you can usually apply makeup.

If you are interested in giving the gift of a youthful and healthy glow to yourself or a loved one this winter season, contact Ageless Wellness Center to learn more. We can build a custom plan to address your needs and help you reach your goals. Give a gift that creates a glow way past Christmas day!

The Lowdown on Leaky Gut Syndrome

“All disease begins in the gut,” stated Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine. Over 2000 years later, our scientific advancements only continue to support this principle. Although “leaky gut syndrome” is just starting to gain traction in the traditional medical world, the condition has been around for a long time under the term, “intestinal permeability.” At Ageless Wellness Center, we believe in digging to the source of our patients’ problems and leaky gut syndrome could be the source for many patients. Over decades of research, there have been many findings to support the existence of this condition, how to identify it, and how to take control of your gut health.

What is Leaky Gut Syndrome?
Leaky gut syndrome is an issue which impacts your intestines’ lining. Basically, your intestines are compromised, allowing bacteria and toxins to pass into your bloodstream. The possible health problems which can occur as a result are extensive and manifest many symptoms. When your intestines are filtering properly, your body receives vital nutrients. If you are suffering from leaky gut syndrome, you could be exposed to many harmful particles never intended to enter your bloodstream.

What Happens When This Happens?
Inflammation and autoimmune reactions are your body’s response. Your body detects the problematic particles and does its best to fight them. Since your body is constantly fighting, it overperforms and that leads to chronic inflammation, which can be linked to most diseases.

What Causes Leaky Gut Syndrome?
Some of the known causes of leaky gut include genetic factors, poor diet, chronic stress, toxin overload, and bacterial imbalance. Since we live in a world of overindulgence on unhealthy food, drugs, and alcohol, and overdependence on medications for wellness, most of our country could easily be at risk of developing leaky gut syndrome.

What Are the Symptoms?
The list of related symptoms will likely continue to grow as our knowledge of leaky gut does, but the most common signs include:
• Propensity for Weight Gain
• Gastric Ulcers
• Thyroid Disorders
• Celiac Disease
• Infectious Diarrhea
• Allergies
• Chronic Inflammatory Conditions
• Metabolic Diseases
• Respiratory Infections
• Inflammatory Bowel Diseases
• Irritable Bowel Syndrome
• Acute Inflammation Conditions
• Parkinson’s Disease
• Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

At this time, leaky gut syndrome has been linked with all these conditions, but it is not proven to be the cause of these conditions. Essentially, people who have leaky gut syndrome are more likely to suffer from one or more related health conditions. The onset of leaky gut syndrome seems to occur at the same time as these other conditions manifest, establishing a strong connection between gut health and wellness.

If you are unsure if you may be suffering from leaky gut syndrome, look out for these most common early symptoms which may give clarity:
1. Food Sensitivities
2. Inflammatory Bowel Disease
3. Autoimmune Disease
4. Thyroid Problems
5. Nutrient Malabsorption
6. Inflammatory Skin Conditions
7. Mood issue and Autism
If you are concerned you may have leaky gut syndrome, schedule a consultation with our team at Ageless Wellness Center. We will help you get to the source and find optimal wellness.

What We Offer

IV Therapies

Myers Cocktail

Named for the late John Myers, MD, this therapy consists of B vitamins, Calcium, Vitamin C and Magnesium.  It has been used for years to aid in the treatment of chronic medical conditions like fatigue, migraines, fibromyalgia, gut issues, malabsorption, asthma, and tick-borne diseases.

One of the strongest antioxidants in the body, glutathione can be given as a stand -alone infusion or can be given after the completion of other infusions.  It helps to combat stress and decrease inflammation in the body.  It is a strong detoxifier and can improve metabolic function.

High Dose Vitamin C

Given at lower doses, Vitamin C is known as an antioxidant, but at higher doses (10-75 grams IV) it induces a pro-oxidative effect, which may be helpful in targeting chronic illnesses due to viruses, bacteria or cancer.

Amino Acids

Provides brain detoxification, glucose tolerance improvement, immune system support, weight control, helps with depression, insomnia, and most all chronic diseases.

H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide)

Considered a universal treatment as it increases oxygen availability to tissue.  Used to treat many disease conditions.

NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide)

Used for alcohol & opioid detoxification, fatigue, Lyme, MS, Parkinsons & mitochondrial regeneration (wellness).

Removal of heavy metal toxicities such as lead, mercury, and others. Chelation can also be beneficial in cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes and other circulatory disease by potentially decreasing inflammation and reducing plaques in the vessels.  This is accomplished by removal of heavy metals and through biochemical interactions of nutrients.

Improves liver damage, post stroke recovery, cardiovascular disease, memory and cognitive decline.

Used to treat iron deficiency anemia that can cause fatigue, lethargy and low energy

Get Your Face Renewed: Laser Skin Resurfacing and Hair Removal

As we age, the effects of sun damage and environmental pollutants take their toll on our skin, causing it to wrinkle, develop sun spots and look tired. Unwanted hair growth, skin laxity, warts, and scars from acne or surgical procedures can also affect our self-esteem.
Dr. Jamie Walraven of Ageless Wellness Center in Peachtree City has more than a decade of experience treating clients through laser skin resurfacing, which can reverse these effects and restore a healthy look.
Walraven recalls one client named Sarah, a 60-year-old married professional woman who felt much older than her age due to increased wrinkles around the corners of her mouth.
“Every time she put on lipstick, it bled up into the corners where the lines are,” Walraven says. “In her case we did some aggressive treatments on her whole face but particularly around her mouth. We went really deep with an ablative laser, which takes off top layers and remodels the skin.”
The downtime, or healing time, from laser treatments can vary from a just a day to 10 days, depending on depth, Walraven says. In Sarah’s case, it was about a week, during which she worked from home.
“It may look bad afterward, but it doesn’t feel awful,” Walraven says. “We always use topical numbing medication on our patients, but when we go deeper in certain areas around the mouth as with Sarah, we make injections like you would have at the dentist so it’s completely numb.”
Lip lines are made by facial expression and will eventually come back, Walraven says. But the results of a single laser treatment will last two or three years before having to be repeated.
Many women and even some men come to Ageless Wellness for hair removal, Walraven says. For women, the area of concern is usually the upper lip mustache area.
“We use a YAG laser which can be used for removing hair even on dark skin,” Walraven says.
Because treatment plans are customized according each client’s needs, pricing may vary.
Ageless Wellness Center is located at 1000 Commerce Drive, Suite 300, Peachtree City. To find out more about laser skin resurfacing or to make an appointment, call 678-364-8414.

Saving Face – The how and why of Facials at Ageless Wellness

From microneedling to lasers, Ageless Wellness offers a broad range of aesthetic services to help women feel better about their appearance. When you look good, you feel good. Facials are a great starting point on the road to looking good and ultimate skin health.
“I’ve never had anyone who did not enjoy getting a facial. It’s the very first step in getting on a skin care regimen,” says Joan Birdsong, one of three licensed medical aestheticians at Ageless Wellness with extensive training and certifications in a variety of professional skin care protocols and devices.
“When a client first comes to me, I like to have a consult to discover what their concerns are,” Birdsong says. “We do a lot of talking during facials. Typically if they start out with facials, most clients will move on to other types of treatment as well.”
From birth to death, our skin never stops growing or changing. Remarkably, our skin cells completely regenerate themselves every 28 to 40 days, based on age. The skin needs specific ingredients to stay healthy such as alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, retinoids, peptides and stem cells. Facials can force the skin to renew itself.
“People get facials for lots of different reasons,” Birdsong says. “I have clients who come in on a monthly basis just to maintain beautiful, healthy skin. Then I have clients who have an event they’re going to and they just want their exfoliated skin to glow and look its best. And some people just want to be pampered, but they also benefit from having their skin treated and helping it look better.”
No matter their reason for coming in, every client’s facial is customized to their individual needs and skin.

“The first thing I do is look at the skin through a magnified light and ask some questions, to determine the best type of facial, and the ingredients they need,” Birdsong says. “Some need to be steamed and detoxified and extracted. With others, the skin has been compromised and just needs calming and hydrating. And for some the skin cells have built up almost like bricks and mortar and we’ll exfoliate that off to reveal the nice new skin underneath. So I absolutely customize every facial.”

Birdsong had an older client who was dealing with several skin conditions including adult acne. She also had dry flaky patches and was concerned about her dull complexion and wrinkling, saggy skin.

“By getting regular facials every two weeks. we were able to clear up the acne. We used detoxifying facials with ingredients to dry up the acne and reduce oil. We also did deep exfoliation with microdermabrasion. And I did a custom mask to hydrate and put nutrients back in her skin.”

After just three facials, the client’s face had cleared up. The deep exfoliating left her skin lighter, brighter and with a glow to it, so Birdsong next plumped up her skin with hydration so the wrinkles appeared less visible. And she still comes in at least every four weeks just for a facial.
“There are different levels of correction, and facials are really at the lowest level of correction, but in the facial realm we can do different types of exfoliation. So someone with very sensitive skin or rosacea might not be a candidate for microdermabrasion, but they might be a candidate for an enzyme exfoliation or an enzyme mask.”
If someone needs a lot of correction due to age or lifestyle, Birdsong might go beyond a facial and recommend more heavy-duty treatments such as lasers or microneedling. Among the array of tools is LED light therapy, which can treat acne with blue light and stimulate collagen with red light. Clients are always advised to follow up with a daily regimen of good skin care. And of course, to use sunscreen.

An 18-year-old actress on a locally produced TV series recently came in seeking treatment for her acne. After just two facial visits, and adherence to the recommended skin care regimen, her face cleared up beautifully and she was thrilled./div>

“Now she comes to see me whenever she’s in town,” Birdsong says. “It’s very rewarding to get such positive feedback from clients when they come in for something so specific and are so grateful that their skin is as beautiful as it can be.”
Ageless Wellness Center is located at 1000 Commerce Drive, Suite 300, Peachtree City. Custom facials start at $115. For more information or to make an appointment with licensed medical aestheticians Joan Birdsong or Stephanie Basile, call 678-364-8414.

Stem Cell Therapy Saves Leg

Prior to coming to Stem Cell Center of Georgia, Scott Newby was told by a vascular surgeon that his only option was amputation of his leg, as his toe was black with a lack of circulation. Here’s what he said after having stem cell therapy treatment at Stem Cell Center of Georgia.
“Dr. Walraven means a great deal to me. Thank you for your willingness to take me on as a patient, for your willingness to try the procedure that absolutely was a success and changed my life. It saved my leg, and saved everything about me. It meant the world to me. You mean the world to me, because of what you’ve done. Every time I feel my leg, and I use my leg, and my feet hit the floor, I think of you. You did a miracle, I know you were a vessel of God that did this. I’m forever grateful. I’m so fortunate that I was able to get this.” — Scott Newby, after treatment on his toe at Stem Cell Center of Georgia.

As a result, Dr. Jamie Walraven and Linda Faulkner FNP-C were featured in the local paper, The Citizen, and in their online version. Scott credits SVF (stromal vascular fraction) Stem Cell Therapy with saving his leg. This is just one of the applications of this innovative new treatment. Stem Cell therapy is used in treating inflammatory, degenerative, and auto immune disorders. Read the full story at this link:

Bye-Bye Femstache

(This guest post is written by a grateful Ageless Wellness client.)
She was a really good friend. And she was completely inebriated at a local charity function when she pointed at my face and said, “We should go wax together.” That was the moment I knew I needed to do something about my femstache.
It’s always been a bit of a problem. With dark, dark brown hair, I used to pluck it in high school. Painful and ineffective.
This time, it took me a few months before I figured out how to handle my hairy lip. In that time, after my drunk friend made my night with her hygienic suggestion, my eleven-year-old son also said to me, a little more direct, “Mommy, you have a mustache.” Great. If he noticed, how many others have who weren’t drunk or tactless have seen my little femstache?
I went in for a facial at Ageless Wellness, because I deserve the best, right? Aesthetician Joan Birdsong, with her charming English accent was preparing to schlep some good-smelling goop on my face, when she said, “I could wax your brows.”
“Hmmm,” I said, “Could you also do something about my femstache?”
“But of course,” she said.
So besides toners and oatmeal masks on my face, she applied a little hot wax, and let it rip. Gone. My femstache was gone. I felt free. And then Joan mentioned that I had a little hair on my chin . . .
Oh no. I’d never even seen that before. She took it off in a jiff. And then she applied all kinds of healing and cooling balms to all of my waxed areas. I had no redness, no problems, just the bliss of a more feminine face.
Joan finished up the facial with more delicious-smelling stuff. And some amazing hot towels. I had to show Nurse Practitioner Linda Faulkner, Office Manager Linda Wright and Chief Financial Officer Karen Sagon my new, improved face as I checked out. (Look! No femstache!)
As I walked out the doors at Ageless Wellness, I felt lighter. Driving home, I repeatedly checked out my visage in my car’s rearview mirror. Bye-bye femstache. You won’t be missed.
